Uses latest models of X-ray equipment, including digital radiology, to produce images of different parts of the body. This helps with diagnosis of different diseases and monitoring the progress with therapy or medication. The equipment is of high quality and produces images of diagnostic value and has minimal radiation dose.
We use digital radiography to produce images of the breasts. This helps to make the diagnosis of diseases of the breast. This examination is also used for screening the population who is at higher risk of developing breast cancer or has a family history of breast cancer.
We have the latest equipment and top range models for doing ultrasound examinations. These produce images of different parts of the body, especially the soft tissues, abdominal organs, joints and the circulatory system. This technique helps to make diagnoses without the use of radiation, as is the case with conventional X-ray equipment.
With screening techniques the procedure can be viewed on a monitor (TV screen). Any part of the body can be screened for diagnostic purposes. Special examinations using barium and other contrast mediums are used to assist in making the diagnoses.
A panorex X-ray machine is also available in the department to examine the upper and lower jaws, as well as the teeth ant TM joints. This assists dentists and dental surgeons to make the correct diagnoses and for the maxilla-facial surgeon to treat facial fractures and tumors.
Fluoroscopy is used during surgical procedures. The X-ray equipment is used to produce images of specific organs that are being operated on. It is also used in orthopaedic surgery for joint replacements, the setting of fractures, etc. The advantage of theatre screening is that the surgeon can monitor his work. We use modern equipment and techniques with minimal radiation dose.
Here we produce three dimensional images of different parts of the body to help with the diagnosis of disease. These images are produced very fast and can be reproduced in three dimensions with re-constructions to facilitate the diagnosis of disease. The equipment also produces a minimal radiation dose during the examination.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging does not use X-rays to produce images and therefor there is no exposure to radiation. It makes use of a magnetic field. The X-ray department has a modern machine using the latest techniques. Its field strength is 1.5 Tesla. It has the ability to make exquisite pictures of the bran, spine, joints and soft tissues. It can also be used to evaluate certain abdominal structures. It has the ability to produce images in three planes, which helps with the accurate diagnosis of various obscure pathologies.
